The textbook reveals the content and scope of the "trend" and "tendency" concepts in relation to the development of socio-economic systems. These concepts are defined in the textbook. It presents the classification and interrelationships of different types of trends, including metatrend, megatrend, socio-cultural trend, consumption trend, and business trend. The textbook shows trend evolution processes. When megatrends begin to affect the civilizational and natural dimension, they grow into metatrends. In particular, industrialization, electrification, automation, computerization, and digitalization megatrends have passed this way. Currently, this is the way for alternative energy, additive technologies, the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, cyber systems, cloud technologies, industrial agriculture megatrends, etc. Humanity is currently experiencing a landmark trend of a phase transition to a new socio-economic formation, which is realized during three simultaneous industrial revolutions: the Third, Fourth, and Fifth. 
The textbook reveals the role of disruptive technologies in the formation of socio-economic trends. It shows peculiarities of the formation of modern trends in various spheres of activity: sustainization, informatization, digitalization, cyber development of the economy and its sectors, development of a technological basis, new materials, and the Internet of Things.
